Training for 24-9 24hr race in July

music: Bad Religion
mood: Splendid

Well, the last two weeks have been very intersting training wise. 12 days ago on Monday is where Ill start. Got off work late and so I started spinning late, but did the Troy Jacobson Time Trial video twice, with some modifications of the resistance level. Then napped for 4 hours and did it again for a total of almost 6.5 hrs of riding. Tuesday did some sauna and stretching work. Wednesday did the intervals work out and took Thursday off and then rode very early Friday for 2 hours. Then the next week, i.e. last week, I didn't have a bike, so I ran Tuesday almost race pace for 35 minutes. I was averaging 6 to just under 6 minutes a mile. Felt good to do that. I had hiked earlier in the day 6 miles. The rest of the week was spent hiking. Tried to run a little Wednesday, but the area was too hilly to stay in a low aerobic zone. So that was a good last two weeks, so now I've got to continue on with my training and stay healthy.

Picture of the greenway trail that I rode yesterday in the rain

music: It's raining men

img090 (375k image)

Well, the rain flooded my trail a little bit. This was a little later, but when I rode it, you could still ride through the water. It was almost up to the top-tube. The water was very cold, so I was glad the rain was 50 degrees and that warmed me up. Got 90 minutes of riding time. That was nice.

Training

music: Muddy Waters
mood: gotta love the rain and mud

Well, I had a great two days of riding. Tuesday was in the low 60's, sunny and a little windy. Choice of riding on the road and worry about cars or ride the paved river greenway. Trails are off limits till they freeze or dry up. The greenway it was. Started out riding and the greenway was wonderful. I little bit of light mud here and there. Then came the Maumee River greenway to New Haven. Ah, that is where the mud was hiding. It was slick and a blast to ride through, because I didn't have to worry about destroying trails. Then I made past the greenway to do a lap of the local race coarse. Then turned around to head back home, twenty miles of pure headwind. Got tucked in and rode back to the mud and then back home again. Once home, got out the hose, oops, still frozen and then washed off the mud with a bucket. LOL.

Flats, lots and lots of flats

music: TV Party Tonight-Black Flag
mood: bummed

angry, grr Well, I was ridden a week ago on a Tuesday afternoon and suffered a twig puncturing my front tire. Limped home and got my tube fixed, then the next day, I went on a long ride and noticed my front tire again had a thorn in it this time, but I was almost home by then and so no big deal. Replaced the front tube and then parked for the night with the hopes of being able to get a short ride in on the Thursday. Well, Thursday arrived and my pedaler checks the front pressure and it is still at 40psi. Then the rear tire check shows it to be low. So off the rear comes and low and behold another thorn in the rear tire. These flats are getting kind of old and expensive.

Fixed again, but the time to ride was gone, maybe the Friday, the 18th of April will be a good day to ride.

Riding instead of blogging

music: The Damned
mood: Fantastic

Long time no blog. Sorry, well a little sorry at least. Shortly after the last blog, the weather got cold and snowy and rainy when not snowy. It seemed like every other day was another snow day. I tried to ride more frequent, but the constant snow didn't allow it. Then my pedaler decided to get the flu for a full week of fevers and general malaise. I almost felt sorry for him, but did he check on me to see if my tires had air, was my chain lubed, or other such details. No!!

Oh well, it served him right to then not be able to ride for another three weeks after that. Then instead of pedaling me, he went to pedal the spin bikes at the local YMCA. Boring!!! Going nowhere fast. Ha, ha ha!!!

Finally, the beginning of April showed up and spring break was upon us and the kids gone and the weather crappy, he tried to ride a few more times with me and I was able to wear him out with the little bit of riding to an from the trails.

More later

I'm alive again

music: Bauhaus

Well, I had a rough spring. I was severely injured in an accident while riding and I limped home. Then it was what to do, what to do. Well I got packed up and shipped out to IF and the bad news was delivered. I was a goner. Was I going to be rebuilt like Steve Austin or was I going to the recycle box to live again? Sadly the recycle box was in my life crazy;oh well, I can live on in dreams, right? All of my measurements were taken during the autopsy. Then off to the scrap heap went my hot pink tubes. crying

But that was not the end of the story, the silver badge stayed out of the scrap heap. It would live on as they say. Unlike Steve Austin that was rebuilt better than before, I was copied and made better than before. My tubes are even more butted than before and I became even more responsive than before. To commemorate this momentous moment, I was rebuilt with all of my old components, except the wheels and cogs. They are new. A beautiful set of Chris King Red Single Speed Disc hubs paired with double butted black DT Swiss spokes and silver nipples and new Mavic 717D rims. Now, all I need to do is swap the fork, stem, handlebar out for some lighter components and I'll be under 16 pounds and extremely beefy. With the heavier components, I'm still svelte at 18.

Long Time No Blog From Me

music: Goverment Issue
mood: Much better now

I was in a foul mood awhile ago, but I have finally been put back together again so that I can be ridden. I was sent back to the factory for a new seat insert and a quick freshening up. Now I that I need is for it to become spring and the weather to freshen up and become warm and windy.

cool eh?

Long Time No Blog

music: Offspring-
mood: Brrr.

I have been a little negligent lately. The weather just hasn't been that cooperative for my pedaler lately. Either extreme cold or cold and windy or snow and ice or just another excuse, if you ask me. I was getting ridden regularly up until the middle of December '07 and then nothing since. Spinning is what he has been doing. Nothing like going nowhere fast if you ask me.

But in other news, I got a new set of wheels this last summer. A very nice set of Chris King Disc in Pink with black spokes and silver nipples and black A317 rims. Very nice, they shaved almost 2 pounds of weight from the previous set. The new tires helped as well. Now if I could only get pedaled more, then I'd be able to become faster and be able to keep up with my 26" cousins.

Riding in a strong wind

mood: Tired

My pedaler is a little over biked since the 28th of December. The oomph just isn't there. We went out for a short ride today and the headwind just suck the life out of my pedaler. I think he needs to take a few days off before he goes out again and he also need to lift some weights as well.

Well, that's all the news for now and I look forward to ole man winter coming next week.

Old Man Winter is hiding

music: Steal My Sunshine
mood: Fabulous

Well, I tried to get out yesterday, but my rider was too busy working. Today on the other hand was another day and we got out a little after 2 and we headed west, south west for a so called quick ride to GM and then a little further south on Homestead.

The weather was a balmy 45 to 47 or so, but it felt like 30 to 35 with the 15 to 20 mph head wind. It took an hour and ten to go almost 17 miles and then it took 52 to 55 to return home. Ahhh, TAILWIND!!!! Well, tomorrow is supposed to be another great day. Will try to write tomorrow.

Road Ride

music: Ballroom Blitz
mood: groovy baby

Well, I made it out two weeks ago for a long road ride (35 miles) with my buddy the Stumpjumper. We rode hard into a 15-20mph headwind for almost 20 miles and then the tailwind home was a god send. We traversed a little on some gravel roads, but our average for the whole ride was a tick over 17mph. The pedaler was glad to get home.

Brakes and Shifters

music: Time Warp
mood: Yippie

My rider talked to the shifter and brakes person and they are supposed to get shipped out today and that would mean that they will arrive on Monday or Tuesday. Just in case, he ordered an extra set from somewhere else and those will arrive if I'm really lucky tomorrow. I might get to go on a test ride before the weekend. big grin

Oh, don't forget to vote if you are registered to vote. I of course can't vote, I'm a bike, but if I could, I would.

In the meantime, I'm going to pray for warmer weather. Today's high was 42 or so and it even flurried some in the late afternoon. Tomorrow isn't supposed to be much better, but it is supposed to be sunnier. Hopefully somebody will get to go out and ride tomorrow.

Brakes and Shifters

music: Black Flags TV Party Tonight
mood: bummed

Found out my shifters aren't coming till next week, grrr. Oh well, my buddy the single speed went out in the cold rain today for a quick hour. He said it was slippery and sloppy, but the trails were still in pretty decent shape. Oh well maybe if I get lucky next week, I'll be able to ride.

Brakes and Shifters

music: It's My Party & I'll Cry If I Want Too
mood: Bummed

My parts didn't arrive like they were supposed to. Maybe tomorrow they'll show up. My fellow Ti Deluxe SS did get to go on a short ride this am and he reported the trails in the woods were not too bad (wet), but the trails leading into the woods were sloppy and down right soggy at times. His rider came back pretty clean, since he only had some splatter on his legs. Ti Deluxe SS said that the trail was very hard to follow because all of the leaves looked the same and it was hard to differentiate trail from wilderness.
